Beauticians in Rwanda are unregulated, which means licenses are not mandatory. They can work as beauty experts in the country if they have the skills.

Non-Regulated Beauty Services in Rwanda

Lash Technician / Facialist / Waxing Technician / Spray Tanning Technician

These beauty professionals are usually considered cosmetologists or estheticians. They are not regulated in the country, however, so anyone is welcome to get skilled and practise professionally.

Massage Therapist

The Ministry of Health covers regulations for massage therapists in Rwanda, including safety protocols. However, its regulations state that there are still no comprehensive rules for licensing this profession. This means there are no requirements to enter the industry.

Nail Technician

Nail techs can have professional diplomas or certificates or not at all. They can start serving clients after their high school education.

Hairstylist

Hairstylists can also begin discovering opportunities after high school. They don’t need further education and can earn once skilled.

Barber

High school graduates and those with certifications are welcome to start their barbering careers. They have no laws for licenses, and having skills is more important.

Makeup Artist

Makeup artists are not required to meet formal requirements for practising the profession. They are only expected to possess makeup artistry skills to practise.
