Guam

Guam has strict rules for licensing individuals in the beauty industry. It has its own Board of Barbering and Cosmetology that ensures quality among practitioners in providing beauty services.

Regulated Beauty Services in Guam

Barber

To obtain a license in Guam, barbers are required to complete a barbering program at an approved training institution with a minimum of 1,600 hours in at least 9 months.

Practitioners who have barbering experience outside of Guam can take the licensing exam, given they have practised for a period equivalent to the country’s required training hours and have studied at a school with a curriculum that meets the standards set by the board.

Licensed barbers from other US states can also get a license in Guam if their qualifications or licensing requirements are equal to or greater than the board’s standards.

Hairstylist

Hairstylists are licensed under cosmetology. They have the same requirements as barbers, where aspirants need 1,600 training hours at an approved institution in at least 9 months.

Practitioners outside of Guam can also get a license if they meet the requirements set by the board. They must have at least the same amount of time of practice as the required number of training hours and have completed education with a curriculum equivalent to what the board requires.

Licensed hairstylists from other US states can also become licensed in the country if their licensing requirements pass the board’s standards.

Massage Therapist / Facialist / Waxing Technician / Makeup Artist / Lash Technician / Spray Tanning Technician

All these procedures or professions are licensed under esthetics. The board requires practitioners to complete at least 600 training hours at any approved school for a minimum of 4 months. Licensed estheticians from other US states can take the examination in Guam if their qualifications are approved by the board.

Nail Technician

Nail technicians are expected to have a manicurist license. They must finish a minimum of 400 training hours in at least 4 months at a board-approved school.

Practitioners outside of Guam can also become licensed in the country if their experience is equivalent to the required number of training hours and they have studied nails with a curriculum that passes the board’s standards.

Licensed US nail techs can also practise in Guam if their requirements are at least equivalent to the board’s standards.
