Barbados is a country in the Caribbean that strictly regulates its professional beauticians. The Health Services Regulations for Hairdressers of 1970 set guidelines on how most practitioners should serve the public to keep the national standards.

Regulated Beauty Services in Barbados

Hairstylist / Nail Technician / Barber / Facialist / Spray Tanning Technician / Waxing Technician / Makeup Artist / Lash Technician

These professions are considered “hairdressers” as per the definition in the law. The regulations for hairdressers require professionals to be certified and licensed to practice in Barbados. The license is signed by a medical officer and should be displayed at the establishment where the services are offered.

Massage Therapist

Massage therapists are regulated under the Paramedical Professions Act. Practitioners must hold a certificate, diploma or any form of recognition given by a recognised institution for providing paramedical training in the country. They are then expected to register with the council to be fully recognised professionals.
