Barbers in Arizona should complete a minimum of 1,200 training hours that include at least 250 hours of theoretical learning and at least 950 hours of practical training. Hairstylists must complete a hairstyling program at a licensed institution with a minimum of 1,000 training hours or have completed training from another state or country with the same requirements at the time of their graduation. They must then pass the board’s examination for hairstylists.

Nail techs are expected to complete a minimum of 600 training hours at a licensed school or must be graduates of nail technology in another state or country with the same requirements as Arizona at the time of their graduation. They must also pass the licensure exam to officially become licensed nail techs.

Facialist / Waxing Technician / Lash Technician (Lash and Brow Tinting)

These beauty professions are categorised under aestheticians. For aestheticians to be licensed in the state, they must be graduates of an aesthetics program with a minimum of 600 training hours at a licensed school or an aesthetician graduate from another state or country with the same requirements as Arizona. Licensing examination follows for successful graduates.

Lash Technician (Eyelash Extensions)

Lash techs offering eyelash extensions are not considered aestheticians as per the revised statutes of the state. They don’t need a license but must be registered by the Arizona Barbering & Cosmetology Board.

They must finish an approved training program with a minimum of 30 hours. The program must then provide a provisional registration to the verifying person of the training. Aside from that, renewal for the registration is also important to keep the legality to work as a lash extension tech in Arizona.
