Hairstylists fall under the cosmetologist license. They need to complete 1,500 training hours or 3,000 apprenticeship hours to take the examination. The number of hours for training and apprenticeship is the same for barbers, who have a separate license.

Facialist / Makeup Artist / Lash Technician / Waxing Technician

These beauty professionals are considered aestheticians in the state. They are expected to finish 600 training hours or 1,200 apprenticeship hours to qualify for the licensure examination. These services are also available in the cosmetologist license. It’s up to the individual to choose the license they want.

Nail Technician

Nail techs must complete 300 training hours or 600 apprenticeship hours to take and pass the licensure test.
