Hairstylist / Nail Technician

Aspirants wishing to offer hair services only in the state can take the hairstylist license. They are required to complete 1,200 training hours or 15 months of apprenticeship to challenge the licensure examination.

Waxing Technician / Makeup Artist / Facialist

Waxing, makeup, facials or skincare can either be under cosmetology or esthetics.

For cosmetologists, they can become licensed cosmetologists or senior cosmetologists. Cosmetologists must finish 1,500 training hours or 24 months of apprenticeship learning. Senior cosmetologists are expected to complete 2 years of work experience as licensed cosmetologists to qualify for the exam.

Estheticians are required to graduate from a 600-hour training course or 6 months of apprenticeship with 30 work hours a week.

Nail Technician

Nail techs in Maryland are required to finish 250 training hours or 2 months of an apprenticeship program with 30 clock hours a week.

Massage Therapist

Massage therapists need 600 training hours and must undergo a CPR training program. Applicants from outside the country may challenge the examination in the state if they satisfy the board’s standards.
