Beauty professions in Missouri are governed by the Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners and the Board of Therapeutic Massage under the Division of Professional Registration. Services with regulations require applicants to train at a licensed beauty institution or complete an apprenticeship program at an approved salon establishment or barbershop.

Nail Technician

Nail technicians should get a manicurist license, which requires 400 training hours or 800 apprenticeship hours.

Facialist / Lash Technician (Lash and Brow Tint) / Waxing Technician / Makeup Artist / Hairstylist

These services need an esthetician license to be practised in the state. Estheticians must complete 750 training hours or 1,500 apprenticeship hours to take the exam.

Services like waxing and lash and brow tinting can also be taken with a cosmetologist license. Cosmetologists should have 1,500 training hours or 1,250 training hours if learning occurs at a public vocational school. Apprenticeships must be at least 3,000 hours.

Hairstylists require a cosmetologist license to practice in Minnesota.

Barber

Barbers need 1,000 training hours or 2,000 apprenticeship hours to qualify for the examination.

Massage Therapist

Massage therapists in the state must finish 300 training hours or learn the skills through an approved apprenticeship program. Examinations approved by the board are AMMA NBCE, ABT, NCETBM, NCETM and MBLEx. Exams no longer offered but were taken prior to their retirement are accepted. Applicants can contact these examining bodies for their score records. Other examinations may be accepted if they satisfy the board.

Spray tanning technicians are not regulated in Missouri. Individuals can master the skills for it without a license and have the option to choose their training provider.

Lash Technician (Lash Extensions, Lash Lifts)
