Regulated Beauty Services in Ohio, USA
Waxing Technician / Facialist / Lash Technician (Lash Extensions) / Makeup Artist
Waxing, facials, lash extensions and makeup are all under esthetics or cosmetology. Estheticians must finish 600 training hours. They also have the option to apply for an internship after completing 50% of the curriculum. Equivalent training hours for internships is 10% or 60 hours of 600 hours.
Massage Therapist
Ohio requires applicants for a massage therapy license to finish 750 training hours and pass the MBLEx.
Hairstylist
Hairstylists can take the cosmetologist or hair designer license in the state. They can go with cosmetology if they want to learn other skills aside from hair services. Cosmetologists must finish 1,500 training hours. Hair designers are expected to complete 1,200 training hours.
Nail Technician
Nail techs need a manicurist license in Ohio. They must finish 200 training hours and an additional 8 hours for an e-filing course.
Barber
Barbers need 1,800 training hours in theory and practice to challenge the exam.

Lash Technician (Lash Lifts, Lash and Brow Tinting)
Lash techs who offer lash lift and land and brow tinting only are not regulated in Ohio. Interested individuals in these services can train at any school to master the skills.
Spray Tanning Technician
Licensing for spray tanning techs is not yet set in Ohio, so individuals can learn from any program provider. It’s important, however, to understand the regulations for tanning facilities as the state has strict rules for business establishments offering sunless tanning, including spray tanning.
