Hairstylist
Hairstylists need a cosmetology license in Tennessee and must complete 1,500 training hours.
Facialist / Lash Technician (Lash Extensions, Lash and Brow Tinting) / Makeup Artist / Waxing Technician
These beauty professionals or services are under the aesthetician license. Aesthetics requires 750 training hours to proceed to the state licensure test. Facials, lash extensions, lash and brow tinting, makeup and waxing can also be learned in cosmetology.
For lash extensions, individuals can get an eyelash specialist license if they want to focus on this service. House Bill 103 states that applicants must finish a minimum of 300 theory and practical hours and up to an hour of domestic violence training.
Nail Technician
Nail techs are expected to earn a manicurist license in the state and must complete 600 training hours.
Barber
Barbers in the state can get two licenses: barber technician and master barber. A barber technician has limited services to provide compared to a master barber.
Barber technicians should finish 340 training hours with 8 clock hours per day and 40 clock hours per week. Master barbers are expected to complete 1,500 training hours. Cosmetologists are credited 300 training hours from their training and must complete the remaining number of hours for master barbering.

Massage Therapist
Massage therapists in Tennessee must finish 500 training hours and pass the MBLEx. They can also take the BCETMB, which is only a certification that states that an individual has met high standards in some areas.
